Gallery Bodalla opens for the summer season with a memorial exhibition Bob Baker – A Life in Art (4.9.1937 - 22.2.2018), to honour much loved friend and artist Bob Baker.
The exhibition runs from Saturday 29 September to Sunday 28 October with opening drinks at 3pm, Saturday 29 September. It will be opened by author Robert Macklin, whose friendship with Bob extended over the last 20 years of Bob’s career. Also attending the opening and performing will be guitarist and friend Geoffrey Potter. The community is invited to come along and celebrate Bob’s life and art. Robert Macklin has written: “Bob Baker is one of those rare artists of the first rank whose real worth was never fully appreciated during his lifetime, except by those privileged to know him best. “Part of the reason was his location for the most productive and astonishing period of his artistic output, in the small NSW South Coast village of Bodalla, far from the artistic whirlwind of the metropolis. But mainly it was his own single-minded devotion to his work, with little or no care for the wealth and fame that he so richly deserved. “However, since his passing in February 2018, a group of his closest friends and supporters have gathered to bring his astonishing artistic legacy to the world. And we are delighted to be able to provide a window through this exhibition and website to Bob Baker’s vision. They encompass much of his life’s work and trace the development of his vision through many artistic genres, culminating in the last decade in an exploration of the mysteries and wonders of physics, but rendered with extraordinary painterly skills. “Indeed, whatever their scientific motif, they stand alone as masterpieces of concept and design that bring a powerful presence to any space, large or small, institutional or domestic.” See exhibition and more works for sale at www.gallerybodalla.com.au
