Rare awards at Moruya RSL

LIFE Membership was bestowed upon two members of Moruya RSL at the September meeting on Tuesday afternoon…and they were more than usually special. Rob Griffith announced the honours to branch treasurer Andy Mackenzie and vice-president Kevin Setter pointing out they were not just branch awards, important that they would be, but Australian. He said they came as some reward for what both men had done during a particularly difficult time with RSL State problems, and with the refurbishment of the Memorial Hall, including replacement of the asbestos roof. Branch secretary Barry Stephens said the decision to award the men that way: “Wasn’t something that just happened overnight. It is a fairly rare award, and well deserved”. There were 18 members at the meeting, held at Moruya Memorial Hall, including four new ones, and during the meeting members approved another application for membership. Mr Setter gave some details of the new State RSL constitution saying it involved a great many matters. The meeting decided to adopt the included terms of reference. The meeting also discussed a proposal for an annual formal dinner, on a date to be decided. It will be an opportunity for mess dress to be worn, by members that have them.
