Two major events are under way for Marine Rescue Tuross. Both events will be a leap forward in response times and the overall professionalism of its members.
The first exciting event is the arrival of the new TU12. The old TU12 , a Cobia built fibre glass hulled RHIB, while a great work horse Tuross Lake, is showing its age and is a little small for Marine Rescue standards. The new TU12 is a brand new 4.8m Naiad with all the electronics that is part of every Marine Rescue vessel.
On September 4th members of Marine Rescue Tuross travelled to Yamba for the sea trials of TU12. And found the workmanship and finish on the vessel first class. Out on the water the vessel proved as quiet and responsive as you would expect from a new 90hp outboard a far cry from the 40hp 0f the old TU12.
On Wednesday TU12 was rolled off the truck and taken to Moruya for the final sorting of the safety equipment and unwrapping of the ancillary equipment. It is now ready to hit the waters of Tuross Lake once the survey certificate arrives. We are hopeful that Saturday week will see members induction and TU12 travelling the lengths of Tuross Lake.
At the same time as this exciting event was taking place we installed a finger wharf at Preddeys Wharf in preparation for the moving of the Air Berth and the relocation of TU20. With TU20 on its air berth at Preddeys the response time to Moruya Bar will be counted in minutes.
What a great outcome for Marine Rescue Tuross whose nominal area of operations stretches from Broulee Island to Potato Point. By Christmas we will have both ends of our area covered. The Tuross end by a new TU12 as well as the Jet Ski and the Moruya end by TU20 berthed at Preddeys.
To assist in the fuelling and maintenance keep in mind the Marine Rescue Fair that is held every long week end Monday. So far we have forty stalls booked and two jumping castles so come on down and by some tickets in our raffle and support the local fair and Marine Rescue Tuross. If you wish to be part of the excitement as a member and be seen on a brand new vessel or on an excitement machine such as the Jet Ski or on the end of the radio as a member contact the unit Commander Blaise Madden on 0448932011.
