Your weekly fishing report from the team at Tackle World Moruya Moruya and Tuross Rivers
The fishing in both systems has really started to improve over the last week with reports of many good catches over the long weekend.
Flathead have been on the bite on the weedy flats opposite Preddy’s Wharf in Moruya. Soft plastics like the Gulp swimming mullet in pumpkinseed are working great!
Whiting are starting to fire up with a few reportedly caught in the back waters using Jackson poppers.
Tuross has seen some good whiting sessions around the four-ways using Jackson poppers and Bassday Sugapens. Baits like worms and nippers are also working well.
Jewfish have been on the bite down the front of Tuross around the boat shed. Fresh squid for bait has produced some nice fish as of late.
Flathead and bream are being caught around the highway bridge on both bait and deep diving hard bodied lures like Atomic cranks and Daiwa double clutch.
Rocks and beaches
The northern side of Moruya break wall has fished well for salmon early in the morning. Spinning with Arma metal slices has been working well for some anglers, others opting to use a paternoster rig with pillies and a surf popper (blue or red) also doing well.
A nice gutter has formed at Pedro Point beach and it's holding schools of salmon, bream and the odd whiting. Pillies have worked great for the salmon, with beach worms for the bream and whiting.
Offshore
The reefs just off Moruya are fishing well for mowie, nannygai, reds and all your other typical reefs species on squid and pillies.
Some decent size reds have also been caught in roughly 15 metres of water. A good berley trail and a lightly weighted bait have been the key to success. Others opting to use soft plastics like Gulp jerk shads and nemesis are doing equally well.
Drifting 50m of water just off Moruya has seen some decent size flathead landed using baits like pillies and California squid, paternoster and performance rigs working well.
