Shadow Minister for Regional Communications Stephen Jones today visited Milton on the invitation of Fiona Phillips, Labor’s Candidate for Gilmore, to launch her local campaign to improve Mobile Black Spots along the Princes Highway.
All major mobile networks have some gaps in their service. However Mobile Black Spots are those parts of the mobile network where there is no signal from any network provider, making it impossible to make a ‘Triple 0’ emergency call.
“Mobile Black Spots along the Princes Highway are a serious gap in our communications network and create an additional risk for people travelling along this busy road.”
“In the event of a natural disaster such as bushfire, or horrific road accident, having mobile reception may be the difference between life and death”, Mr Jones said.
“The beautiful NSW South Coast is a tourist hotspot and this places seasonal demands on the Princes Highway. Mobile black spots along this critical transport corridor create a dangerous hazard for motorists, tourists, the community and emergency services”, Ms Phillips said
“Fixing mobile black spots along the Princes Highway should be a priority, and must be fixed to improve motorist safety and emergency response times”
“That is why I’m launching my campaign and petition to improve mobile signal along the highway.
“I’m calling on the Morrison Government to put safety first and to fix the mobile black spots along the Princes Hwy”, Ms Phillips said.
