At the recent ONE One New hospital in Eurobodalla public meeting held in Moruya on October 6th Councillor Anthony Mayne advised, during question time, that he was prepared to take back to Council the resolutions that had been voted on at the meeting and to also request clarity around the role that Council will play should a regional hospital at a greenfield location be determined. The resolutions passed on that day in reference to a new regional hospital being established in the Eurobodalla were: 1. THAT all levels of government work together to immediately improve Accident & Emergency Services, Critical Care Services and Perioperative Services and upgrade existing infrastructure and workforce servicing the Eurobodalla Shire. 2. THAT all levels of government work together to establish a single new health facility within the Eurobodalla Shire which will provide medical services equal to those of the Regional and Base Hospitals within the Southern NSW Local Health District. 3. THAT such health facility provide equitable access for residents of the Eurobodalla Shire. It is not know if Councillor Mayne did actually take those resolutions back to Council and his fellow councillors, nor is it known if he has sought any clarity around the role that Eurobodalla Council might play in advocacy of any new regional hospital. Also attending that meeting were Councillors McGinlay and Constable The following question on notice was penned by Councillor Phil Constable (below) seeking clarity on the issue.
Councillor Constable's formal question to Council was:
"There is considerable discussion within the Shire community regarding the prospect of a Regional Hospital being established locally. Has there been any recent discussions between Council Staff and the New South Wales Government and/or the NSW Health Authority concerning this possibility? " "If such interaction has been occurring between these parties what have the discussions involved, including potential location, new Greenfield site or present facility upgrading."
Council staff have provided the following response: At the time of the publication of the agenda, Council staff have not held discussions with the NSW Government regarding possible locations of a Regional Hospital in Eurobodalla. However, it is Council’s understanding that the NSW Government are investigating options for possible locations within Eurobodalla.
