Off-the-Beach Sailing Report Sunday 11 Nov

Four boats were treated to ideal sailing conditions at Coila Lake on Sunday: plenty of sunshine and a moderate easterly breeze with the occasional stronger gust from the north to make life interesting. Two races were sailed; the first was a scenic figure-eight into the back lake, and the second was a shorter triangular course in full view of the shore in front of the Kyla Park Hall.

As the four boats were of very different designs and speed, and nobody managed to capsize, the races became rather a procession. The Taipan Terminator (Peter and Pip Schwarz) zoomed around in the lead and took line honours in both races.

However, in second place, the Maricat Mongolian Horse (Rick Marsden) was travelling fast enough to take first place after adjustment for the yardsticks of the different boats. There was real competition at the rear between the slowest multihull Tradewind (Allan Rees and Thomas Schild) and the Laser Lucy (Richard Dreverman). The competition lifted Tradewind to take first place on performance handicap in the first race, but a series of minor disasters spoiled her copybook in the second race. The Laser, being a monohull, competes in a different division, but her times were more than competitive with the multihulls after yardstick adjustment.

Division 1 Race 1 on Yardstick: (1) Mongolian Horse (2) Terminator (3) Tradewind

Division 1 Race 2 on Yardstick: (1) Mongolian Horse (2) Terminator (3) Tradewind

Division 1 Race 1 on Performance Handicap: (1) Tradewind (2) Terminator (3) Mongolian Horse

Division 1 Race 2 on Performance Handicap: (1) Terminator (2) Mongolian Horse (3) Tradewind

Division 2 Race 1 on Yardstick: (1) Lucy

Division 2 Race 2 on Yardstick: (1) Lucy

Division 2 Race 1 on Performance Handicap: (1) Lucy

Division 2 Race 2 on Performance Handicap: (1) Lucy

Next racing day will be on Sunday 25 November, competitors should be ready for a briefing at 11:30am and a start at 12:00 noon. For more information, see website https://www.bbsc.org.au/Off-the-Beach.
