YOOFTube is the regional youth short film competition run by South East Arts, now in its sixth year, specifically aimed at ages 12-25 living or studying in our south east region. Last week a packed house gathered at The Picture Show Man in Merimbula to see the YOOFTube finalists’ films and hear the announcement of this year’s winners.

Unfortunately, due to technical difficulties beyond anyone’s control, not all films were able to be screened but the incredibly supportive crowd were happy to congratulate the winners regardless.
“This year our young regional filmmakers had to work their films around the word ‘change’. South Coast author Jamie Shaw is our key supporter of YOOFTube and the use of a keyword was his genius suggestion, which resulted in a really vast array of interesting and thought provoking interpretations on the theme,” said YOOFTube co-ordinator Mrs Kate Howarth of South East Arts.
“Each year we see a great new crop of young filmmakers coming through. It was inspiring to see the strong messages in some of the films about issues facing youth today, like social anxiety, peer pressure and depression. Filmmaking is an excellent medium for storytelling, particularly for young people as it is now so readily accessible.” Mrs Howarth said.
