The combination of good weather and New Year fitness plans attracted a record number of 122 starters to the first run of the year. This broke the previous record of 115 set back on 16 May last year. The impressive part of the run was the number of visitors with 29 visitors testing themselves over the 3 distances. It was a family affair with 6 Aungles and 5 Ceceres, Carters, and Scahills. The visitors came from various parts of the country including the Cayman Islands.
In the 2 kilometres personal best times were recorded by Hamish Whitear, Louis Hayward, Samson Kennedy, Jonno Harrington, Aislinn Schahill, Gab Smith, Ellie Van Weerdenburg, Joanne Scahill, Karen Edwards, Peter Johnsen and Robyn Domeny.
In the 3.5 kilometres the improvers were Angus Murphy, Bryon Grant, Liza Martini and Claire Blair.
In the 5 kilometres the improvers were Andrew Oberg, Tess Aungles, Jane Aungles, Nathan Urban, Pip Harrington and Katrina Leach. Because of the large numbers we started the 2 kilometres a minute after the longer races and adjusted the times later. Below: The start of the 2 kilometres.
