Eurobodalla Council is advising motorists to expect delays on the Princes Highway near Trunketabella, north of Bodalla, on Thursday 3 January.
A tree on the side of the road needs to be removed to allow Council crews to repair a water main break.
Traffic will be reduced to one lane starting from 6am on Thursday morning.
The early start acknowledges the busy time of year, and Council anticipates both lanes of the highway will be open again by midday.
