Gordon Robinson, Chris Denton & Anneke Paijmans at Gallery Bodalla
Gordon Robinson returns to Gallery Bodalla 10 January, with beautiful evocative landscapes that celebrate the South Coast. He is joined by Chris Denton with exquisite prints that hold an air of mystery; and wonderful smoke-fired ceramics by Anneke Paijmans.
This exhibition runs from Thursday 10 January through to Sunday 10 February.
All are welcome to opening drinks, and to meet Gordon – Chris – Anneke on Saturday 12 January at 3pm, with music by guitarist extraordinaire John Hoorweg.
Gordon Robinson’s paintings are meditations on journeys through the landscapes of the south east of NSW – his home for many years. Gordon explains: “They are not ‘depictions’ of the land and sea as such, but are about the movement of the eye through time and space and terrain. The works are also a celebration of light and of the capacity of this land to transform and shape us through our experience of it”.
Gordon graduated from National Art School and Alexander Mackie CAE Sydney in the 70s, and has held various teaching positions including National Art School and East Sydney Technical College. With exhibitions from Queensland down to the far south coast, Gordon’s work is held in numerous collections Australia wide and the UK.
He is joined in this show by master technician Chris Denton, with prints inspired by a fusion of science, nature, spirituality and philosophy. Working in the intaglio printmaking technique, Chris creates intricate still life, fusing objects of great beauty with a love of intellectual enquiry.
Chris exhibits internationally receiving wide and popular acclaim in numerous biennales across Europe as well as America, New Zealand and Egypt. He has received numerous awards recognising his technical mastery and fine execution of his prints, including the International Biennale of Small Graphics in Poland, and the 1st Footprint Biennial International Print Competition, Norwalk, USA. His work is represented in many collections including the National Gallery of Australia, Parliament House, Association Musee d’Art Contemporain (Chamalieres, France), Hawaii State Foundation for Culture and the Arts, Tama Art University (Tokyo) and the Gilkey Center for Graphic Arts, (USA).
Completing this fine show is Anneke Paijmans, with beautifully finished smoke fired ceramics that relate to the places in Gordon’s paintings; the forests and the coastal lands where we live - from the minutiae to the expansive.
“My creatures inhabit the landscape, both physically and as symbols on a more subtle or spiritual level” Anneke said.
Anneke has a Diploma of Fine Art from Canberra School of Art and Certificate III and IV in ceramics and visual arts from Illawarra Institute of TAFE Bega. She was a finalist in the Basil Sellers Art Prize in 2010 and 2014 as well as having many exhibitions on the far south coast and in Canberra.
