Peter Schwarz, Pip Smith and Neil Starmer took the 6.5m sportsboat Outwide for a run south last Friday. Batemans Bay to Bermagui, some 55.6 miles in a fresh N/E 15-25 knot breeze averaging 11.7 knots in a time just 11 minutes shy of 5 hours. Top speed was 17 knots. Unfortunately the breeze dropped out just south of Mystery Bay for 45 mins that slowed their progress to less than 5 knots before freshening up again. Peter Schwarz told the Beagle "We believe this time is a record for a boat of this size. However we seek to shave a further hour off the trip in the near future. We challenge any other yacht or sail craft to beat our time!"
"Great yachting. Big thanks Batemans Bay Coastal Volunteer Patrol for tracking our voyage. We also had a motor boat in support."
"We had a few very refreshing beers at the recently renovated Bermagui Hotel on arrival."
