Coila Sailing Sun 24th Feb

Only one regular boat, the grand lady Tradewind (Allan Rees and Thomas Schild) turned up on Sunday to enjoy a beautiful sunny day with a gentle breeze from the south-east. However she was joined by Kel Murray in his first race with his Maricat sloop The Autumn Sun, so a simple race was held over a triangular course in the front lake.

As usual Tradewind timed the start to perfection. The Autumn Sun was not far behind, but Tradewind still led at the first mark. On the reaching leg to the wing mark, The Autumn Sun got up and flying, to take the lead. The lead expanded and contracted in subsequent stages, but The Autumn Sun took line honours by a couple of minutes in an hour-long race. However Tradewind was the winner after Yardstick adjustment and also won on Performance Handicap; it will take another few races for a true performance handicap to evolve for The Autumn Sun.

As Kel had to leave at this stage, no second race took place but Tradewind enjoyed a pleasant scenic cruise around the lake.

Div 1 (multihulls) on Yardstick: (1) Tradewind (2) The Autumn Sun

Div 1 (multihulls) on Performance Handicap: (1) Tradewind (2) The Autumn Sun

Next racing day will be on Sunday 10 March; competitors should be ready for a briefing at 11:30am and a start at 12:00 noon. For more information, see website https://www.bbsc.org.au/Off-the-Beach
