Don Russell wins out in Stableford event
Despite the heavy rains and course closure the day before, the sun came out to dry the course allowing 58 players to enter for today's Stableford event, the game also being the first of three rounds for the Elaine Jennings trophy for lady players. Don Russell took out the honours on the day with a fine score of 21 points. He was followed home by Teri Swanbury and Robert McKirdy on 20 and Neal Watson on 18 following a six way count back for fourth place. Balls or chocolates went to Greg Smith, Bruce Ware, Annette Manton, Rick Brake and Les Johanson on 18, Ray Downey, Kevin Dukes, John Cox and Herb Muriwai on 17, and finally Paul Pereira, Leonie Snodgrass, Alan McLeod and Ian Wratten all on 16.
The Bradman award was taken out by an out of form Len Rogers. Nearest the Pins went to Steve Swanbury on the 4th, Ian Manton on the 6th, and Leonie Snodgrass and Greg Smith on the 7th, with the Accuracy drive on the 5th being won by Ross Hendy.
