ACCELERATE climate action Film this Friday in Moruya Four Eurobodalla community groups have come together to promote climate action in the federal election.350 Eurobodalla, SHASA (the Southcoast Health and Sustainability Alliance), The Coastwatchers Association and the Nature Coast Marine Group will screen the film “Accelerate” followed by a forum on the Climate Election. Friday 12 April, 6:00 to 8:00 pm St Mary’s Performing Arts Hall, 40 Queen St, Moruya About the film: 350 Australia has made an Australia-focused film that will empower people to take real climate action. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change’s urgent new report demands drastic action to limit global warming to less than 1.5 degrees Celsius. This film can show Australians how we can stop new fossil fuel projects, push for a fast and fair transition to 100% renewable energy, and ensure an end to subsidies for fossil fuelled energy.350 Australia took the message of the recent Accelerate Climate Action tour with 350.org founder Bill McKibben and created a film for people to share in their communities, to inspire solidarity and empower action. The film 'Accelerate' will inspire people everywhere to take action on climate change. A collaborative effort between Emma Hudson (Director), Blair Palese (CEO of 350.org AU), and John Collee (Master and Commander, Happy Feet), Accelerate follows McKibben, one of the world’s most internationally recognised environmentalists, on his 2018 tour of Australia, where he passionately attempts to encourage government, business and community to accelerate climate action in Australia.
During his time in Australia, McKibben visited five states in just eight days, saw the devastation caused by ocean warming on our Great Barrier Reef, visited Newcastle to meet with union and government officials in the heart of the world’s biggest coal export port, and saw some of the low carbon solution projects underway in Adelaide. Throughout the tour, Bill had three key messages: we need to stop all new fossil fuel projects, switch to 100% renewable energy, and make sure not a dollar more goes to dirty energy. Accelerate aims to share, inspire and motivate our country to get active before the next federal election to ensure climate change is THE issue nationally.
