Artists invited to show at the Bas in 2020

With a packed program for 2019, submissions are now open for artists looking to exhibit at Moruya’s new Basil Sellers Exhibition Centre in 2020.

Eurobodalla Council’s arts coordinator Indi Carmichael said new exhibitions at the Bas were programmed in monthly time slots.

“There are 12 slots all up, with each show running for three to four weeks,” she said.

“We’ve already filled most of 2020 but the good news is we’ve held three spaces – April, August and November – for artists with something special to offer.”

Ms Carmichael said Expressions of Interest (EOI) could come from solo artists, group exhibitors, or shows by organisations and institutions.

“The Bas is all about celebrating local and national creative art and contemporary culture,” she said.

“It’s all about bringing enjoyment and benefit to residents and visitors to the Eurobodalla, so we are particularly looking for exhibitions that are thought provoking and conceptually interesting, bold and challenging.”

Ms Carmichael said other highlights for 2020 included the return of the Basil Sellers Art Prize.

“We’ll also have a solo show presented by this year’s Eurobodalla Art Prize winner Stephanie McClory, what a treat! We have touring shows planned, returning favourites such as River of Art, and installations, 3-D works, and so much more,” she said.

“Our new workshop spaces will also be ready and we’ll be offering a lot more in public activities – workshops, residencies and educational programs.”

Ms Carmichael reminded the public that Shirley Goodhew’s mixed-media solo exhibition Deep Waters is currently running at the Bas until Sunday 14 April.

“Shirley will be in residence at the Bas on Saturday 13 April, where gallery visitors can watch her work and ask questions about her exhibition and practice,” Ms Carmichael said.

Exhibitions are selected by Council’s creative arts team. Submissions for 2020 exhibitions close at 4pm on Friday 10 May 2019.
