Romantic Horn Trio - 2:30 pm, Sat May 4
The second concert in the 2019 Montague Visiting Artists series features the wonderful and rarely-heard Trio for Horn, Violin and Piano by Johannes Brahms. As a young man, Brahms learned to play the horn, as well as violin and piano, so it is perhaps natural that he chose this combination of instruments to commemorate the death of his mother. The music is lush and generous in spirit, interspersing melancholy moments with celebrations of happier times.
The rest of the program includes Romances by Beethoven and Schumann, as well as an attractive selection of shorter works performed by a trio of young musicians from Sydney: Sebastian Dunn - horn, Benjamin Adler - violin and Benjamin Burton - piano.
