As Mae West, one of the world’s most famous burlesque stars once said, – “come up and see me some time”. Well that time is just about here.
As part of the River of Art festival which starts in just 2 weeks time, the evocatively art deco Narooma Kinema will be transformed into a cabaret burlesque circus show on Saturday 18 May.
Ms West won’t be there but her namesakes, Memphis Mae and Mae de la Rue, will be along with other acclaimed Australian artists, Heidi Hula Hoops, Rosie Rivette and Rebelle Velveteen.
Orchestrating this will be the brilliant ringmistress, Sassy Ludo, who has worked both in Australia and internationally in theatre and improvised performance.
“Expect some cheeky burlesque and a good laugh in a night that is set to be heaps of fun. It will be a night of real cabaret performance – burlesque, laughs, circus, tap dancing and music,” Ringmistress Ludo said.
“Each performer will delight you with both a traditional tease and a unique modern performance. Definitely for the over 18s, but decent enough to bring your nanna,” she advised.
All the burlesque performers are finalists or winners of Burlesque titles in Australia and internationally and are travelling down from Sydney and Canberra for the night.
Cost is $55 and bookings can be made by phoning 44762352. More information about this and other River of Art events can be found on its website, www.riverofart.com.au . The festival will run from Friday May 17 to Monday May 27.
River of Art is funded by the NSW Government through Destination NSW and the Eurobodalla Shire
