On Monday 28th April 2018, 20 Rally for Recovery volunteers travelled to Sydney's Children Hospital in Randwick, where they were taken on a tour of the kids Cancer Centre by Professor Glen Marshall and one of their clinical nurses Kirsten Adnum.
The volunteers were shown the newly refurbished ward, which was only opened recently, viewed treatment rooms and visited some of the children in the isolated rooms. Rally for Recovery donated 50 plus handmade beanies to be given to patients while President Ken Sloan and Treasurer Sandra Sloan presented Professor Marshall with a $100,000 cheque to continue their research on childhood cancers.
Professor Marshall explained how they now have an 80% cure rate for childhood cancers due to organisations like Rally for Recovery raising money for research.
Rally President Ken Sloan said "To all our volunteers who come in week in and week out the Rally committee is ever so grateful. Without you all, there would be no donations to give."
"We also love to thank each and every one of our locals who have donated goods and to all of you who continue to shop at Rally for Recovery in Tomakin, without the amazing support from our community this would not be possible."
