Mackay Unveils New Shadow Ministry

NSW Opposition Leader Jodi McKay has brought in eight new faces and promoted another four MPs to senior portfolios marking a significant refresh of the NSW Labor frontbench.

Half of the Labor Shadow Cabinet are now either new or have been given significant promotions.

Daniel Mookhey, Trish Doyle, Greg Warren, Jo Haylen, Paul Scully, Julia Finn, Tara Moriarty and Jodie Harrison all make their debut in a McKay Shadow Cabinet.

Meanwhile Prue Car, John Graham, Kate Washington and Chris Minns have all been promoted in a cabinet that also includes new portfolios to reflect Labor’s priorities.

The new portfolios include the Gig Economy; Rural & Regional Jobs; Building Reform; Housing & Homelessness; Consumer Protection; Better Public Services; Carers and Volunteers and Active Transport.

Ms McKay said the changes signalled a major rejuvenation for NSW Labor.

“We have a fresh new team with responsibilities that really give us a chance to reconnect with NSW communities whether that is in the regions or suburbs of Western Sydney.

“I am incredibly proud of the Shadow Cabinet because it brings on some of the real talent within our caucus and signals to people exactly where Labor’s priorities lie – which is putting people first,” Ms McKay said.

The new-look Shadow Cabinet comes in the wake of Ms McKay announcing her leadership team which was elected at a caucus meeting on Tuesday.

Ms McKay is joined by Yasmin Catley as her Deputy Leader – the first time in 40 years that a regional member of the Legislative Assembly has served in a Labor leadership team.

Adam Searle remains as Opposition Leader in the Legislative Council assisted by Penny Sharpe as Deputy.

Following her election at the weekend Ms McKay has signalled her intention to embark on a tour of NSW to listen to people to understand better how a future Labor government can serve them.
