Moruya River
With the good weather we’ve had there’s been lots of anglers out on the water and the reports have been consistent this week with good bream and trevally around the hole in the wall and again nice flathead on the flats. Also this week there’s been good reports from up the back of the system around Yaragee for nice whiting and bream and the odd thumper estuary perch. It seems worms, pipi’s and whitebait have been doing the damage up the front of the system and around the upper reaches the guys using lures such as the bottom magic, double clutch or chubby shallow cranks were the standout choices this week!
Tuross River
There have been mixed reports this week from Tuross with some anglers averaging okay bags to a couple of guys really getting stuck into some quality fish from bream reaching 43cm and whiting averaging around 38cm. The whiting have been found on the flats at the entrance to the system and the weed beds around the four ways and are taking worms and prawns and the turn of the tide is key to target the bigger fish. Bream and flathead have been active in water around the 1 to 1.5 metre range and are liking pilchard cutlets, worms and whitebait. The lure guys are getting great bream at the moment on lures like the Double clutch, Atomic deep shad and Prolure’s D36. There was some reports of very nice luderick this week in Tuross around the boat shed down in the deep holes that run along the bank there and the guys that spent the time getting their rigs to present the baits just right did get some impressive luderick up to 2kg. Now we all know the guys that target jew fish suffer from lock jaw “ha ha” and do not share their information freely, however I can confirm a Jew fish measuring 1.5 metres was landed in the system this week however the location was not shared and I don’t blame him for holding back on the full story, but if you know the system you would have an idea where this monster might have come from.
Beaches/Moruya Break wall
Beach fishing has been good this week with good reports of oversized salmon, large whiting, large bream and the odd toothy critter getting around. Best beaches this week were Tuross, Wind sock and Congo. Most anglers have been spinning up the salmon on Arma metal slices this week as the salmon were slow on taking a bait however fish were still landed on the ever faithful pilchard. The whiting and bream on the beaches couldn’t resist a worm or pipi. The break wall has fished well this week for salmon, tailor, bream and flathead. There has been lots of guys spinning up some thumping big salmon hanging around the wall this week with a few salmon weighing in around 4kg, making these an exceptional sporting fish at this size so it’s no surprise there’s guys out there with their bream gear listening to their reels scream on these oversized salmon and I must say I do think I might give this a go myself.
Reef Fishing
The guys that did venture out found it quiet this week but still there were a few nice fish to report like snapper at 5kg from Pedro’s in water only 7 metres deep and again some nice reds coming in off Tuross in water up to 40 metres and like always out off South Head lifesavers club in water up to 45 metres produced good reds as well but I’m hearing some really good reports of reds coming in from Durras, so if you can head up that way as the average red is around 3kg and reaching up to 5 or 6kg. Flathead have been in good numbers off the Wind sock and Tuross this week.

The recent days have been very pleasant and sunny for this time of year in the snowies. The cold nights and frosty mornings are seeing more trout in close fossicking for yabbies and anything that catches their eye. The past Saturday seen some very wintery strong winds with flurries of snow and rain around the area. This sort of weather entices the fish to feed along the banks in search of any foods that may have been washed up. Targeting areas (soaks) where water is constantly seeping down and trickling into the bays and lakes edges is an ideal area to locate feeding fish especially in areas with the clay lined banks. (Yabbie beds)!
Lake Eucumbene
Dropped to 23% capacity and is fishing well around Old Adaminaby area right down to 7gates on everything from bait to fly. Water depths of 4m and under is producing most of the action. Spotted dog patterns are standing out!
Lake Jindabyne
Dropped to 69% capacity. Trolling has produced some nice fish over the week mostly around the Kalkite arm, F-9 Rapala’s and the good old Tassie’s producing the goods. Fly fisho’s are starting to tangle with a few fish presenting a wet fly. (Wooly buggers of different styles)!
Tantangara Dam
18% and falling but still producing plenty of fish. It’s been fishing very well for some time now. Just check the road conditions before heading to this destination.
Bait: good old scrub worms, yabbies, grubs or Berkley’s artificial baits. (Orange Trout Gulp or Trout nuggets).
Lures: This time of year go big - Spotted Dog patterns always stand out, Tassie Devils and other winged lures in golds and glitters with yellow wings or good old pink, Daiwa Double Clutches, Bullet Lures, Rapala’s right up to there F-13 models and checkout the huge range of Jackson Lures, the little trout tunes and athlete55s the swimming action is so life like and changes up from a slow role to a sharp fleeing bait simply by changing up your retrieval speeds. Ohh and don’t forget trout love soft plastics - Jig head weights of 1/8 and under (bounce them like your chasing flattys)!
