Transport for NSW are extending the standard construction hours on the Batemans Bay Bridge replacement project to support the construction industry and facilitate social distancing guidelines for workers to allow work to progress.
What are they doing?
Standard construction hours for the Batemans Bay Bridge replacement project were:
• Monday to Friday from 7am to 6pm
• Saturdays from 8am to 1pm. The new construction hours for the Batemans Bay Bridge replacement project will be:
• Monday to Sunday (including public holidays) from 7am to 6pm These new construction hours will come into effect on Saturday 2 May 2020 and be in place until further NSW Government notice.
How will the work affect you?
Transport for NSW say "Extending our standard work hours supports our workers to facilitate social distancing guidelines while keeping the project progressing and allowing our activities to be spread across more days of the week.
"We will not be carrying out high noise generating activities such as rock breaking, rock hammering, and pile driving or similar activities during these new construction hours on weekends and public holidays.
"During this period of extended construction hours the project will also take all feasible and reasonable measures to minimise the impact of other noise-generating works, including limiting high-noise activities on weekends to between 8am and 1pm on Saturdays only.
"The NSW Government has introduced new rules under the Environmental Planning and Assessment Order 2020 to allow construction sites to operate on weekends and public holidays to support the industry during the COVID-19 pandemic.
"These new construction hours will come into effect for the project on Saturday 2 May 2020.
"We understand that there are greater numbers of people working and studying from home, and are unable to leave their home to avoid construction noise. Please contact our project team on 1800 870 119 if you would like to discuss the extended work hours and the mitigation measures we are putting in place."
