On what was a beautiful sunny morning (perhaps the first signs of Spring) a good field of 58 players registered for the day's Stroke and Putts event, this also being the first of two rounds of the 2019 Vets Championships. Winner on the day was Chris Wratten with a six under handicap score of 29 strokes nett. Chris was closely followed by Ray Downey on 30 and then Les Thompson and Ross Davidson both on 31. Balls or chocolates were won by John Cox on 33, Lyn Benger, Greg Thornton, Brian Smith (a new member), Ian Miller and Ian Wratten on 34, followed by Herb Muriwai, Ron Lunt, Steve Collins, Rick Brake and Ken Brown on 35.
There were a number of players vying for the infamous Bradman award this week but Don Russell won out in the end. Nearest the pins were taken out by Ken Brown on the 4th, Ray Downey on the 6th, and by Ann Ware and Kevin Dukes on the 7th. Steve Collins won the Accuracy award.
