The Yuin Folk Club Inc is honoured and very pleased to be a party to a seed funding grant of $5,280 to support the development of a design concept for a Cobargo Community Building/Community Fire Refuge. The grant was provided by the Cobargo Community Bushfire Recovery Fund. In our joint application, the Yuin Folk Club and the Cobargo Showground Land Manager ,supported by the Cobargo A.P&H Society, said the proposed $2m building would be built at the Showground, The proposed building would give Cobargo and the region a bushfire refuge and evacuation centre as well as a modern community facility for use by community organisations and others.

Image shows initial design idea by Takt Studio for Architecture. "The Yuin Folk Club is closely involved in the development of this project having seen first-hand the need for a building that can provide a safer haven and evacuation centre in our area during disasters. "Many of our Club volunteers sought refuge at the Showground during the NYE fires; many volunteers played essential roles in the establishment and operations of the relief centre and many are now playing important roles in the recovery efforts. As a major user of the Showground we know the site very well and have agreed to support the Cobargo Showground Land Manager in its efforts to deliver this building for the benefit of the community. "This is a major Cobargo community recovery project that has broad support from the local and regional community and is gaining support from sponsors and corporate donors. The project team is working to get significant funding support from governments at all levels. More information about this project in coming weeks.
