The Beagle Editor
The editorial in the On-line Beagle of 30 June 2023 informed readers that the Eurobodalla Councillors had voted themselves a pay rise which in total will cost ratepayers a measly $59,506 per annum.
I say measly because it is unimaginable that councillors would work for a little over $20,000 each year, be on call 24/7 and have to tolerate irate ratepayers at fortnightly council meetings. I also compare the measly increase when I look at the massive rate increases that have been secured by neighbouring councils.
Those neighbouring councillors have presided over councils that have now gained approval from IPART for between 40% and 50% Special Rate Variations (SRV) and these councillors are on the same pay scale as ours.
I’ll take the budgeted pay rise over an out-of-control financial position requiring a Special Rate Variation anytime.
