Dr Holland closes his practice doors after 20 years but his advocacy on health continues

Dr Michael Holland, an obstetrician and gynaecologist serving the Eurobodalla and South East community for the past twenty years has announced that today, December 5th 2022, marks the last day of his specialist consulting practice in Moruya. Dr Holland said "Twenty years since coming to the Eurobodalla and serving the women and families of the Eurobodalla and Bega districts. That’s half of my medical career and two thirds of my specialist career. "It has been an honour to serve the community medically. Now to continue to serve the community politically" For the last two decades Dr Holland has been working with and for our community, dedicating his personal and professional life to improving women’s health and health services across the Bega electorate.

As part of his role with the Southern Local Health District, Dr Holland worked closely with NSW Health in developing policy and guidelines in relation to obstetric and gynaecological matters. In his spare time, he continued to teach young medical professionals at the Australian National University Medical School as a lecturer.

It was inevitable that Dr Holland became involved in politics as a means to an end given that he has been a vocal advocate for improvements to accident & emergency, critical care and perioperative services in the Eurobodalla, as well as for the delivery of a single new level four regional hospital for the region. The frustration and disappointment of successive failures to recognise and deliver the minimums deserved by his community led to his standing as the NSW Member for Bega. Dr Holland was elected as member for Bega at the NSW by-election in February 2022. Dr Holland will once again contest the Seat of Bega in the upcoming March 2023 NSW State elections on his platform to:

  • Enhance our local health and hospital system

  • Work to support existing and create new jobs in Bega and the Eurobodalla

  • Help house our most vulnerable and help provide more affordable housing

  • Secure investments for our roads and local infrastructure projects

  • Improve our local schools and TAFE

  • Address climate change and protect our environment
