Foreshore improvements continue along the Clyde

Batemans Bay community and visitors might have noticed that the picnic tables along the Clyde foreshore have been removed. This is a temporary measure as the foreshore transforms itself into the design and components that better suit the new pontoon and the foreshore extension that will continue to the western side of the bridge. Council is putting in place a foreshore plan that was endorsed by the community in 2020 that includes changes to parking and pedestrian access along Clyde Street that will transition the precinct into a more family friendly and safer area for community and visitors. Together with the retained segment of the old bridge as a viewing platform the foreshore will also see the inclusion of a newly commissioned sculpture comprised of retained pieces of the old bridge. This sculpture is gifted to the community by the RMS. Mayor Hatcher said of the recent removal of the picnic tables: "They will be back everyone. Quite often things need to be repaired, painted or just moved as that is the intention with these tables. "I can assure you having access to the amazing views while enjoying the outdoors is important to us all. "Also just another point on the sculptures around town. It’s important to realise Council have not purchased any of these sculptures. They have been generously donated to the community by the Sculpture For Clyde committee. Council simply upkeep them. I bring that up as it’s important to recognise the hard work that volunteer groups like this put in to raise money and supply public art to our shire and quite often don’t get the recognition they deserve."
