Karyn Starmer Announced As The Mayoral Candidate For The Mayne Team

The Mayne Team has announced Karyn Starmer as their mayoral candidate for the upcoming Eurobodalla Shire Council elections to be held on 4 December 2021.

Karyn and her husband, local GP Neil Starmer, both actively engaged in the Eurobodalla community, settled in Moruya with their two small children on joining Queen Street Medical Centre in 1999.

An ex-financial markets trader, Karyn is now a journalist working for Region Media, publishers of About Regional and The RiotACT, and a casual producer for ABC Radio Canberra.

Committed to her local community, Karyn has held positions in many local school, club and community organisations, including Moruya SLSC, Broulee Dolphins RUFC, South Coast Anglican Schools Board, Mirrabooka Riding Club, and as an organiser of the Moruya Jazz Festival and Moruya Town to Surf Fun Run.

Karyn is seeking election as Mayor because she believes the Eurobodalla is at an important crossroad in its history.

“Change is upon us. If we do not act now to change the way our council plans for growth, serves its community and protects our natural assets, we will end up as yet another sprawling, unfriendly, urban environment. The Eurobodalla deserves better local government and a better future,” Karyn says.

“I’m running for Mayor because modern councils need experienced, executive level leaders – free from conflicts of interest – to safeguard our treasured way of life through this time of change.

“I’m an ex-financial markets trader, now a journalist. So, I’m highly analytical and organised, trained to ask the hard questions, and a strong communicator and leader.

“I’ll work to restore balance in the Chamber, so your Councillors drive the agenda not the executive.”

“I care deeply about our communities; I understand the wide range of interests and needs. As mayor, I will serve the community with integrity, transparency and remain free from outside influence.”

Karyn is also a candidate in current serving Councillor Anthony Mayne’s group - The Mayne Team - with local GP Michelle Hamrosi and management consultant Trevor Moore.

Councillor Mayne has known and worked with Karyn for many years on a regional school board.

“I am inspired by Karyn’s commitment to our community. My experience of Karyn is that she is a person that gets things done. She asks the hard questions yet has a strong ability to listen.”

“Karyn does not need anyone to hold her hand through complex matters,” Anthony says.

“A passionate member of our community, Karyn would make a terrific mayor who would lead and represent our community. Karyn would be a voice for our community, something that is currently missing from our council.”
