Indie pop-rock outfit Thunder Fox and South Coast favourites The Spindrift Saga and Sam Fletcher headline the all-ages Currents music event this year, and it’s free.
Bringing a home-grown music festival vibe to Moruya’s Riverside Park on Saturday 24 April, Currents is organised by local youth, for local youth, with the support of Eurobodalla Council, Coordinaire, Campbell Page and headspace.
As well as the big-name acts, local high school bands will compete in a battle of the bands - giving local up-and-coming musicians a chance to play in front of a solid crowd.
Batemans Bay’s headspace will bring lawn games, like giant Jenga and Connect 4, tie-dying, painting, crochet, and more, as well as a one-stop-shop information stall on mental health, alcohol and other drugs, sexual health and bushfire recovery.
Food vans will keep the crowd fed, with limited free food available, and PowerFM will broadcast live from Currents and interview people on the day.
Council’s community development coordinator Zoe Morgan said Currents 2021 was shaping up to be bigger and better than ever.
“We want to see as many folk as possible get on down to Riverside Park on Saturday 24 April,” she said.
“This is a great opportunity to get together with your mates, let loose and have some fun. If it’s raining the event will still go ahead at the Moruya RSL Hall, so lock the date in your calendar.”
Currents kicks off at 2pm, with Narooma High, Batemans Bay High, Carroll College, Moruya High and St Peter’s Anglican College bands battling for bragging rights. The scheduled acts will be held 4.30-7pm.
The Youth Week event will also include a digital exhibition of photos submitted for Council’s Photos of Hope project.
