Writer's picture: The BeagleThe Beagle

On Wednesday we had a good turnout of 42 bowlers with winners decided by Highest Winning Score and this week the winners were Russell Smith, Peter Murton and John Spees (skip) who were on fire all day and after leading 22 to two after 11 ends they took the match 32 to nine against Jon King, Barry Goodwin and Terry Lewis (skip). Second place went to Scott Kennedy, Tony Cobcroft and Keith Pickett (skip) who led 23 to eight after 11 ends before defending a fightback for a 29 to 22 win against Craig Campbell, Paul Naylor and Shorty Smart (skip). The first resting toucher went to Tony Cobcroft who obviously carried his team as he showed his consistent good form to rest on the jack at 1.21. Well done Cobby. Thank you to Rapley and Son, Narooma Plaza, for their continued support.

On Sunday we had two rinks of triples and a rink of pairs and the winners, decided by Lucky Rink, were Pieter Vos and Pat Barklem (skip) who were down eight to 16 before storming home for a 19 all draw, ends up, against Darrell Goodridge and, birthday boy, John Downie (skip).

Minor Singles Championship

The Final of the Minor Singles was played this week and it proved to be an exciting match. Terry led early, but only by a couple of shots and after seven ends he was ahead eight to seven. He then extended the lead with some top bowls and led 18 to nine after 15 ends. Jim then started firing and staged a comeback to trail 17 to 18 after 20 ends. Terry then started to draw clear and won five of the next six ends to take the match 25 to 18. Congratulations Terry on the win and also well done Jim, it was a great championship for both of you.
