Nelligen Bridge Replacement Kings Highway upgrade
Project update December 2022
Transport for NSW reports:
"The project team has been working hard to open the bridge to traffic as soon as possible. The traffic bridge railings have been installed and the cyclist bridge railings are nearly complete. The drainage system under the new bridge was also completed in November. The earthworks on either side of the bridge, including soil settlement for the eastern bridge approach has been affected by the rain but is expected to be complete in the coming weeks.
What’s coming up
The next major milestone for the project is the placing the final layer of asphalt on the new bridge deck and connecting it to the Kings Highway.
The final layer of asphalt has now been placed on the bridge deck. This was done by spraying a waterproof membrane on top of the concrete deck and then placing and compacting over 300 tonnes of hot asphalt. This process was completed in December and will be followed by line marking next year.
Once complete, the new bridge will open to motorists, cyclists and pedestrians and the existing bridge will be closed. This is expected to take place in early 2023, weather permitting. Temporary traffic changes will be in place while we prepare for the bridge opening. This will be carried out in three stages.
