Police have located and charged a man wanted for alleged property offences, after escaping police custody in the state’s South Coast yesterday.
The 28-year-old man escaped from police custody and was last seen about 12.30pm yesterday (Monday 28 February 2022) on High Street, Batemans Bay.
Following an appeal, about 2.30pm today (Tuesday 2 March 2022), officers from South Coast Police District located the man in a makeshift shelter on the banks of the Clyde River, Surfside.
The man was arrested and taken to Batemans Bay Police Station where he was charged with 12 offences including;
• Break and enter house destroy property
• Aggravated break and enter without knowing person there
• Take and drive conveyance without consent of owner
• Drive motor vehicle while licence suspended
• Drive in dark no lights
• Two counts of goods in personal custody suspected being stolen
• Two counts of dishonestly obtain financial advantage etc by deception
• Carry cutting weapon upon apprehension
• Escape police custody
• Resist officer in execution of duty
The man was refused bail and will appeal before Batemans Bay Local Court on Wednesday 2 March 2022.
