Rally for Recovery reaches $3 million milestone

Rally for Recovery, a passionate and dedicated group of fundraisers, has reached an outstanding milestone by raising over $3 million for Sydney Children’s Hospitals Foundation (SCHF). The entirely volunteer run op-shop, which opens Wednesdays and Saturdays, 9 am to 12 pm, has supported the Kids Cancer Centre at the Sydney Children’s Hospital since 2001 and is a testament to the power of community in changing lives.

To celebrate Rally for Recovery's milestone achievement, a thank you event was held on the 18th April 2023, at 12 pm on the Rally site at 10 Ainslie Parade, Tomakin.

Above: attending the event were Rally for Recovery staff, including Ray Dickinson (Chairman), along with Kristina Keneally, CEO of Sydney Children's Hospitals Foundation, the Federal Member for Gilmore, Fiona Phillips, member for Bega, Dr Michael Holland and Eurobodalla Mayor, Mat Hatcher.

Ray Dickinson, Chairman of Rally for Recovery, said, "We are incredibly proud of reaching this milestone, and it motivates us to continue supporting the amazing work done at the Kids Cancer Centre. We couldn't have done it without the support of our fantastic volunteers and community."

The shop sells donated items from the local community, with all proceeds going to Sydney Children’s Hospitals Foundation. The donations from the Rally for Recovery have played a crucial role in advancing research at the Kids Cancer Centre, as well as improving patient care and enhancing facilities for young patients and their families.

CEO of SCHF, Kristina Keneally says, “It is fantastic to show the power of community to affect real change. The ongoing commitment of the people of Tomakin has changed the lives of so many kids with cancer at the Kids Cancer Centre. Our Movement of Many encapsulates everyone, and we are excited to celebrate the volunteers at Rally for Recovery for their fantastic work and ongoing support to Sydney Children’s Hospital Foundation.”

"Sydney Children’s Hospitals Foundation is one of the most trusted charities in Australia, the largest children’s charity in Australia, and one of the largest children’s hospital foundations in the world. In November 2022, the Fundraising Institute of Australia recognised SCHF as the NSW Fundraising Team of the Year.

"Last year, SCHF raised $76 million from 27,000 donors to support the Sydney Children’s Hospitals Network: The Children’s Hospital at Westmead, Sydney Children’s Hospital at Randwick, Bear Cottage, the Newborn and Paediatric Emergency Transport System, and Kids Research.

"We encourage the community to continue supporting the Kids Cancer Centre and Sydney Children's Hospitals Foundation in their ongoing efforts to improve children's healthcare".
