Teen critically injured in South Coast crash

A teen has been critically injured in a single-vehicle crash on the state’s South Coast at the weekend. About 6.45am Saturday (9 April 2022), a white Toyota Camry was travelling south along the Princes Highway, Cockwhy, about 30km southeast of Ulladulla, when it lost control and left the road, hitting a tree. Members of the public stopped to assist and contacted emergency services. The driver and sole occupant – a 16-year-old boy – was trapped in the vehicle before being freed by Fire and Rescue NSW. He suffered serious head, leg and pelvic injuries and was airlifted to Moruya Hospital before being flown to Canberra Hospital where he remains in a critical but stable condition. Checks revealed the vehicle was reportedly stolen from a home on Jardine Way, Jordan Springs, Western Sydney, about 2.30am that day. It has been seized for forensic examination. Officers attached to South Coast Police District attended and have commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash. As inquiries continue, witnesses to the crash – including motorists with dashcam vision – are urged to contact police.
