The Moruya bypass is one thing but what about the on and off ramps

With the anticipated visit of RMS "big wigs" on Wednesday to tour the proposed route and waypoints of the Moruya Bypass it is hoped that there might be an announcement or, at the least, some clarity around the details of where they propose to have on and off ramps. Questions asked around these details by the community at the Information Session last weekend met with a similar response offered by the Member for Bega, Andrew Constance when he said: "the chosen corridor will be used to develop design options for the bypass in the next phase of the project.

“Bypass connections to the Princes Highway will be investigated as the project progresses, following consideration of further community feedback along with more traffic and environmental studies." the local Member said. Gerald Banak has been giving the connections some thought telling The Beagle that last year he took the opportunity to suggest the possible corridor for a Moruya Bypass Project. Following the recent announcement of the preferred route Gerald wrote to the RMS saying "I am pleased that my suggestion was not in wain, your announcement puts the corridor within 99% of my sketch from 02/04/2019. "At that time you announced that the bypass will only be connected to Princess Highway and there will not be any other entrees/exits. I wish to submit for your consideration the following traffic observations: "North Head Drive/George Bass Dr, as the only alternative to Princess Hwy, carries just as much traffic and is strategically just as important. With increase in urban development will also come considerable increase in traffic volume. "Traffic heading south feeding from the North Head Drive will again create a bottle neck situation when turning left in to an existing/old Moruya Bridge. "Equally, traffic feeding from the Princess Hwy heading from the south, with destinations in north along George Bass Drive (Broulee, Mossy Point, Tomakin) would still have to pass through Moruya and the existing/old Moruya Bridge. "Traffic feeding from Princess Hwy from the north with the destination of South Head will still have to pass through Moruya existing/old Bridge and Moruya township. "Traffic feeding from South Head Drive with any destination north will also have to pass through Moruya township and the existing/old Moruya Bridge. "Moruya's current and future urban development is in area of South Head and South West Moruya with topography 90% suitability for gravity fed sewerage system with an already established sewerage processing plant. "In light of the above, the by pass will eliminate only traffic generated by Princess Hwy N/S, with no destinations in Moruya suburbs.

Above: the anticipated RMS "big wigs" tour of the proposed bypass route on Wednesday might like to consider Gerald Banak's design suggestions for on and off ramps.

The community is encouraged to have their say on the proposed route until Monday 14 June and to meet the project team at the information sessions listed above. To adhere to current health guidelines, bookings are required for Sessions 1 and 3 and booking details are available on the Transport for NSW webpage.
