U3A celebrates Jeanette Urbanik: Badge No. 1

As the U3A Choir arrived for practice at the Batemans Bay Salvation Army Headquarters on 29 August 2019 we were excited to learn that Jeanette Urbanik was celebrating her 90th birthday. Jeanette was the founding member of the Batemans Bay U3A in 1996. Her badge number is No1. At the time Jeanette was a primary school teacher in Batemans Bay. Jeanette has been involved in a range of roles within the U3A Community and joined the U3A Choir 3 years ago.

The Choir was joined by some of Jeanette’s family members Katie, Victoria and Jane - all of which live here in the Bay, her remaining 4 children who live in Sydney were unable to make the event. Jeanette’s daughters enjoyed joining in with the Choir to sing and spent an enjoyable afternoon talking with everyone and sharing stories of Jeanette’s life in the Bay and being part of the U3A community.

Celebrations concluded with a rendition of Happy Birthday while Jeanette blew out candles on a cake made be her Daughter Victoria who is a professional chef. All members of the choir signed a card of well wishes and delicious afternoon tea was provided by Dell, one of the choir members.

The U3A choir would like to thank Jeanette for her contribution to the U3A and for her commitment over the years. Without her vision for creating a community based group where likeminded people can come together to learn new skills and build lifelong friendships, we would not be here today to celebrate such a lovely milestone.
