Dog owners have been warned to look out for blue, coin-sized creatures when walking their pets at the beach, following a spate of dogs falling ill after ingesting stingers.
The Beagle has been advised that a dozen or more of these bad boys on Long Beach yesterday afternoon. Some the size of a 10 cent coin but many only the size of a 5 cent coin. They are flat when on the sand, so easily overlooked by humans, but easily hoovered up by foodie dogs who will end up in emergency with anaphylactic reactions if eaten.
They have also been reported at Mosquito Bay, Garden Bay, Malua Bay so probably at most beaches by now.
